With so much emphasis on science and technology these days, I wish I’d taken more STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) courses back in the late ’70s as a UVa undergraduate. I started as a pre-med student, but left after discovering the allures of Philosophy.
Fall 77 – CHEM 141 Intro Chemistry + Lab (Grimes)
Spr 78 – CHEM 142 Intro Chemistry + Lab (Grimes)
Spr 78 – MATH 121 Calculus I
Spr 78 – ENGR 109 Computers in Engineering (BASIC)
Fall 78 – CHEM 241 Organic Chemistry + Lab (Levitt)
Fall 78 – BIOL 201 Intro to Biology + Lab (Diehl)
Fall 78 – EVSC 380 Environmental Geology + Lab (Goodell)
Spr 79 – C S 250 Digital Computer Programming (FORTRAN)
Spr 79 – MATH 122 Calculus II
Sum 79 – ANTH 327 Intro to the Savage in Western Thought
Fall 79 – ANTH 280 Intro Archaeology (Plog)
Spr 80 – EVSC 415 Man and the Sea (Goodell)
STEM courses totaled 43 course-hours, 1/3 of my total undergraduate course-hours.
