Lights Out!
We lost electricity for 118 hours after hurricane Irene.

Hurricane Irene, despite being only category 1 by the time it passed 40 miles off Virginia’s coast, wreaked havoc on infrastructure far inland, including our area. Phones (land lines) were out for three days, cell phones out for 4 days, electricity out for 5 days, internet out for 6 days, and we lived like people from the 19th century. Our nights were lit by candles and oil lamps, we used ice for refrigeration, and we ate our meals uncooked and cold. For entertainment we read old-fashioned pulpware (books), and parents sent their kids outside to play. It was an experience I do not want to repeat!
